The Euganei hills are volcanic in origin with a typically conical shape that rise to the sky like an oasis in the Pianura Padana (Po Valley) in the province of Padua, and are today a sought after tourist destination. Constituting a territory rich in suggestions of both natural and artistic beauty, this was the cradle of the Veneto Iron Age culture of the 7th to 6th centuries B.C. The remains of earthenware vessels used for the consumption of wine, which have been found in the Euganeo area, date back to this period. An island of nature protected by the Regional Park, the Euganei hills offer a varied production of wines and niche products. The landscape is a succession of perfect geometry of vineyards, medieval hamlets and castles, of renaissance villas and noble residences, churches, monasteries and hermitages; the favourite places of illustrious personalities such as Goethe, Foscolo, Byron, Shelley and Petrarca. The Euganei hills also offer numerous cultural tourism attractions: in Teolo, for example, inside the Palazzetto dei Vicari is a museum of contemporary art dedicated to Dino Formaggio, while in the locality of Praglia one can visit a splendid Benedictine abbey. In Arquà Petrarca the great poet Francesco Petrarca lived and is buried. Abano and Montegrotto are known worldwide as important spa towns. The Museum of the Colli Euganei wine is hosted at the premises of the town of Vò and the Enoteca Consortile Euganea, a permanent exposition where it is possible to taste and buy the best products of our associates The zone of production of the grapes suitable to obtain the denomination of origin “Colli Euganei” wines, includes the entire administrative territory of the municipalities of Arquà Petrarca, Galzignano, Torreglia and, in part, the municipalities of Abano Terme, Montegrotto Terme, Battaglia Terme, Due Carrare, Monselice, Baone, Este, Cinto Euganeo, Lozzo Atestino, Vo’, Rovolon, Cervarese S. Croce, Teolo, Selvazzano Dentro, all in the province of Padua.

Caratteristiche e tipologie vino

There are numerous D.O.C. wines produced in the area controlled by the Colli Euganei Consortium: from whites to reds, from young wines such as Novello, to the Reserve versions appreciated for their special characteristics. Rosso, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Raboso, Merlot are available in the Reserve version, which present a higher alcoholic content and expand the possibilities for pairing them, making them also wines “for contemplation”. Excellent national and international results for the sweet wines Muscato and Fior d’Arancio, prized for their pleasantness and freshness. In 2011 the recognition of the D.O.C.G. for “Colli Euganei” Fior d’Arancio, also in the Spumante and Passito versions, officially entered into force. The contextual changes to the rules of production of the D.O.C. wines has allowed us to introduce interesting varieties such as Carmenère, Garganega, Manzoni Bianco and Raboso, as well as making the total supply of D.O.C. more contemporary and closer to the sensitivity of the consumer. Tradition and innovation are the basis for the success of the D.O.C. “Colli Euganei”, that, due to the conformation of the Euganei hills, offers a variety and richness of products. The complex geological origin of the hills, where very different rocks co-exist, has a dramatic influence on the characteristics of the soils while the morphology especially through the dynamics of the slope, plays a crucial role in the degree of development reached by the soils. One must not overlook other factors such as vegetation, climate, weather and human interventions. The climate of the Euganei hills presents almost Mediterranean thermal conditions with mild winters and hot, dry summers. The local temperature is influenced more by the exposure of its slopes than by altitude and specifically by the influence of the bora wind that can make the climate harsh and subject to strong fluctuations, especially on the north-eastern slopes while the proximity of the sea provides a thermoregulatory action capable of mitigating the excursions between night and day and the seasons. The hills benefit from a higher temperature than the plains thanks to the frequent thermal inversion on clear days and early hours of the morning.

The “Colli Euganei” wines must be obtained from grapes of the following varieties of vines present in the vineyard premises: Garganega, Glera, Tocai friulano, Sauvignon, Pinella, Pinot Bianco, Manzoni Bianco, Chardonnay, Moscato Bianco, Moscato Giallo, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Raboso Piave, Raboso veronese, Carmenère. Merlot Rosso and Cabernet are those that occupy the most extensive areas, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Serpino, Cabernet Franc and Moscato. The production of varieties such as Pinello.

COLLI EUGANEI FIOR D’ARANCIO D.O.C.G.

Colour: more or less intense straw-like yellow

Bouquet: strongly aromatic, characteristic

Taste: from dry to sweet, more or less lively;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: ideal at a temperature of 10°C

Accompaniments: in the dry version, Spring risottos, vegetable based first courses, fish in general, white meats; in the sweet version with sweet puff pastry, focaccia, fruit tarts, small pastries

COLLI EUGANEI FIOR D’ARANCIO SPUMANTE D.O.C.G.

Colour: more or less intense straw-like yellow

Bouquet: strongly aromatic, characteristic

Taste: sweet, intense, the residual sugar must not be less than 50 g/l and the alcoholic content must be a minimum of 6%;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: ideal at a temperature of 10°C, served in a low cup-shaped glass with a long thin stem

Accompaniments: with sweet puff pastry, focaccia, fruit tarts, small pastries;

Foam: more or less persistent;

COLLI EUGANEI FIOR D’ARANCIO PASSITO D.O.C.G.

Colour: giallo, dorato, brillante;

Bouquet: strongly aromatic, characteristic

Taste: sweet, aromatic, persistent

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 15.5%, alcoholic content 11% vol., minimum residual sugar 50g/l;

Accompaniments: excellent with blue cheeses, Ideal with small pastries; Serving Modality: to be served at a temperature of 10°C in a small semi-spherical glass.

COLLI EUGANEI BIANCO E BIANCO SPUMANTE

Colour: straw-like yellow

Bouquet: vinous with a pleasant characteristic aroma;

Taste: dry, sometimes medium sweet, pungent, elegant, velvety

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11,00%

Serving Temperature: to be served at a temperature of 10°C in a medium-sized slender tulip-shaped glass, closed slightly upward to allow a harmonious concentration of fragrances.

Accompaniments: excellent on its own between meals, it goes well with light Italian-style hors d’oeuvre, soups in general, dishes of vegetable and fresh cheeses; in the Spumante version it goes well with hors d’oeuvre and desserts

COLLI EUGANEI SERPRINO FRIZZANTE E SPUMANTE

Colour: straw-like yellow;

Bouquet: fruity, delicate, fine;

Taste: from dry to amiable

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: to be served at 8°C in a midsize flared tulip-shaped glass, but with a corolla enlarged outside.

Accompaniments: for its freshness it is a classic wine to have between meals, ideal also as an aperitif. It goes well with light hors d’oeuvre, and with light salt or fresh water fish

COLLI EUGANEI TAI

Colour: straw-like yellow;

Bouquet: delicate, pleasant, characteristic;

Taste: from dry to medium sweet;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11,00%

Serving Temperature: to be consumed at a temperature of 10°C, preferably in a medium-sized slender tulip-shaped glass, closed slightly upward to allow a harmonious concentration of fragrances

Accompaniments: it goes well with all types of spring produce risotto, tasty vegetables, seafood, crustaceans and fish in general;

COLLI EUGANEI CHARDONNAY

Colour: straw-like yellow;

Bouquet: pleasant, characteristic, delicate

Taste: from dry to medium sweet;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: to be served to approx. 10°C in a medium-sized slender tulip-shaped glass, closed slightly upward to allow a harmonious concentration of fragrances.

Accompaniments: excellent as an aperitif and between meals, with vegetables or fish hors d’oeuvre, with pasta and pasta with broth, herb risotto, and fish dishes cooked in the oven;

COLLI EUGANEI MOSCATO E MOSCATO SPUMANTE

Colour: more or less intense straw-like yellow

Bouquet: intense and characteristic of Muscat

Taste: from dry to sweet, intense and characteristic of Muscat, tranquil or more or less lively, in the Spumante version residual sugars must not be less than 50 g/l with a minimum alcoholic content of 5.5%;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: da consumare alla temperatura di 10°C, in bicchiere a forma di coppa bassa con gambo lungo e sottile.

COLLI EUGANEI PINELLO FRIZZANTE E SPUMANTE

Colour: straw-like yellow;

Bouquet: delicato caratteristico;

Taste: from dry to amiable

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: servire a 8°C, in bicchiere di media grandezza a forma di tulipano svasato, ma con corolla allargata all’esterno.

Accompaniments: è un vino da aperitivo, si accompagna a pesce, carni bianche e anche grasse; serve da tutto pasto ed a ogni ora;

COLLI EUGANEI GARGANEGA

Colour: straw-like yellow

Bouquet: delicato e caratteristico;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, di medio corpo, sapido;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 10,50%

Serving Temperature: da consumare alla temperatura di 10°C, in bicchiere a forma di coppa bassa con gambo lungo e sottile.

Accompaniments: ideale con minestre, risotti, antipasti, piatti a base di pesce;

COLLI EUGANEI SAUVIGNON

Colour: straw-like yellow

Bouquet: delicato e caratteristico;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, fresco, armonico;

Accompaniments: da consumare con aperitivi, minestre, risotti a base di verdure, piatti a base di pesce;

COLLI EUGANEI MANZONI BIANCO

Colour: giallo paglierno più o meno intenso;

Bouquet: caratteristico, intenso, floreale;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, di medio corpo, sapido;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11,00%

Serving Temperature: temperatura di servizio 10°C.

Accompaniments: può essere consumato con formaggi a pasta molle, salumi, risotti di pesce, pesce bollito e alla griglia, carni bianche, verdure;

COLLI EUGANEI PINOT BIANCO

Colour: paglierino chiaro, talvolta con riflessi verdognoli;

Bouquet: light white straw-yellow

Taste: from dry to medium sweet;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11,00%

Serving Temperature: va consumato a 10°C di temperatura, possibilmente in bicchiere di media grandezza a forma di tulipano slanciato, chiuso leggermente verso l’alto.

Accompaniments: si accompagna a piatti di pesce in bianco o con salse delicate, minestre asciutte ed in brodo, timballi di riso, frittate di verdure;

COLLI EUGANEI ROSSO E ROSSO RISERVA

Colour: rubino più o meno carico;

Bouquet: marcatamente vinoso con profumo caratteristico;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, sapido morbido, di corpo fine, vellutato; secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol., nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: ideale se consumato alla temperatura di 16°-18°C, in bicchiere panciuto di grandi dimensioni e a bordo convesso per consentire la concentrazione dei profumi complessi di vini di maggior struttura.

Accompaniments: da giovane si sposa bene con minestre asciutte, bolliti umidi, arrosti di carni bianche e pollame, invecchiando accompagna selvaggina e cacciagione. Affinato, prolunga il piacere della tavola, come vino da meditazione;

COLLI EUGANEI MERLOT NOVELLO

Colour: ruby red

Bouquet: fragrante, fine, caratteristico;

Taste: asciutto, talvolta abboccato, armonico, vellutato;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol, zuccheri riduttori residui massimo 10g/l.;

Serving Temperature: servire a 14°C, in bicchiere di medie dimensioni, a forma di uovo allungato, tronco verso l’apertura per favorire la concentrazione degli aromi.

Accompaniments: è il tipico vino per per i piatti autunnali a base di funghi, insaccati, carni bianche e frutta secca;

COLLI EUGANEI CABERNET E CABERNET RISERVA

Colour: rosso intenso;

Bouquet: pleasant, characteristic

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, leggermente erbaceo; secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol, nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: servire a 16°-18°C, in bicchiere panciuto di grandi dimensioni e a bordo convesso.

Accompaniments: sposa le carni di pollame nobile, la cacciagione, gli arrosti e le grigliate, formaggi stagionati. Affinato, prolunga il piacere della tavola, come vino da meditazione;

COLLI EUGANEI CABERNET FRANC E CABERNET FRANC RISERVA

Colour: intense ruby red;

Bouquet: intensamente erbaceo, talvolta con sentori di frutta rossa;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, intensamente erbaceo; secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol, nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: Servire a 16°-18°C, in bicchiere di grandi dimensioni e a bordo convesso.

Accompaniments: ideale per le carni di pollame nobile, la cacciagione, gli arrosti ed i formaggi stagionati;

COLLI EUGANEI CABERNET SAUVIGNON E CABERNET SAUVIGNON RISERVA

Colour: rosso rubino intenso, con riflessi violacei, talvolta granati con l’invecchiamento;

Bouquet: gradevole caratteristico;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato di buona struttura, secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol, nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: va consumato alla temperatura di 16°-18°C, in bicchiere di grandi dimensioni.

Accompaniments: è il classico vino da tutto pasto, sposa gli arrosti, il pollame la cacciagione, i formaggi a pasta dura e grigliate di carni miste;

COLLI EUGANEI MERLOT E MERLOT RISERVA

Colour: rosso rubino più o meno intenso con riflessi violacei, talvolta granati con l’invecchiamento;

Bouquet: gradevole caratteristico;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato morbido, armonico, di corpo, secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol, nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: servire a 16°-18°C in bicchiere di grandi dimensioni.

Accompaniments: ideale con arrosti in genere, di carni rosse e bianche, salumi, verdure saporite, carni in umido, cacciagione;

COLLI EUGANEI RABOSO E RABOSO RISERVA

Colour: rosso rubino con riflessi violacei, nella versione Riserva con riflessi purpurei, talvolta granati con l’invecchiamento;

Bouquet: fruttato, gradevole e persistente;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, sapido, caratteristico; secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol., nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: servire a 16°-18°C, in bicchiere di grandi dimensioni e a bordo convesso.

Accompaniments: in abbinamento con piatti di carne, la cacciagione, gli arrosti e le grigliate, formaggi stagionati;

COLLI EUGANEI CARMENÈRE E CARMENÈRE RISERVA

Colour: rosso rubino intenso con riflessi violacei, talvolta granati con l’invecchiamento;

Bouquet: intenso, erbaceo;

Taste: da secco ad abboccato, morbido, equilibrato, caratteristico; secco nella versione riserva;

Alcoholic Strength minimum total volume: 11% vol, nella versione Riserva 12% vol.;

Serving Temperature: è un vino dai caratteri spiccati, inconfondibili, che rivela sia nel diffuso consumo entro pochi mesi dalla vendemmia, sia nell’invecchiamento che ne porta a singolari evoluzioni, i suoi austeri toni erbacei.

Accompaniments: ideale compagno per arrosti di carne rossa e bianca e formaggi a media stagionatura;
